How Brian Hamburger Built His Business

Brian Hamburger’s journey has taken him from a struggling entrepreneur to the president and CEO of business and compliance consulting firm MarketCounsel.

When Hamburger first launched the firm in 2000, the 800-pound gorilla was National Regulatory Services in Lakeville, Conn. His hope was that instead of just registering RIAs and selling advisors a form set of policies and procedures for a fixed fee, they would charge clients a higher fee to handle the entire project.

“So now when they’re already launched or now when they’ve gone through our member initiation program, they’re in a position to rely upon us to tell them what has to be done when because certain triggers have been met.”

Here are some stories along the way of building his business that didn’t make it into our profile in the July issue of REP
