LPL Chief Marketing and Communication Officer to Step Down

LPL is currently searching for a new CMO, with Heather Carter planning to depart after the firm’s annual advisor conference next month.

Heather Carter, chief marketing and communication officer at LPL Financial, is stepping down from her role after more than 19 years with the firm. Carter will stay on until after the firm’s annual FOCUS conference, coming up from Aug. 4 to 6 in San Diego. The firm is currently conducting a search for a new CMO.

A spokeswoman for LPL said Carter told the company in May she wanted to leave to “begin a new chapter in her career.”

In her role, Carter was responsible for integrated marketing, communication and conference functions. In 2022, her position was expanded to include creation of Client Communications, a team dedicated to making advisors feel connected to the firm, opportunities and their peers.

Prior to joining LPL, Carter was a senior manager, marketing and communication, at UVEST Financial Services, and a communication consultant at Manulife Financial before that.

The firm recently restructured corporate communications and marketing, separating the two functions. Communications will now report to Kristin Petrick, senior vice president of communications. Petrick joined in March from Orion, where she served as CMO. LPL’s marketing department will report to the new CMO.

LPL also announced internally that Sallie Larsen, a managing director and chief human capital officer, will retire from her position to spend more time with her two grandsons. She is staying on with the firm until they find a replacement.
