In spite of concerns that job growth on a national basis is not as robust as it should be, office developers around the country are confidently going ahead with new projects. The CoStar Group, a Washington, D.C.-based research firm, just released its third quarter list of select Major Office Buildings under Construction and unsurprisingly, the largest of these are located in markets that have led the economic recovery, including New York, San Francisco, Houston and Dallas. Reflecting tenants’ new requirements, most, if not all, of the new office buildings contain enough sustainable features to qualify for either LEED Gold or LEED Silver certification. And some are starting construction without signing a major lease—surely a testament to the developers’ faith in their chosen market.
