Simple Alternatives, an alternative mutual fund provider in New Canaan, CT, hired Josh Kernan. Kernan is the former director of alternative investments and managed at accounts for Charles Schwab.

Putnam Investments named Dr. W. Van Harlow, director, Investment Retirement Solutions, where he will be responsible for creating a new generation of products and services. Prior to joining Putnam, he served as a consultant to the firm.

Raymond James & Associates hired Tim Sheridan as the complex manager in its Red Bank, NJ office. Sheridan, who joins the firm from UBS, will oversee offices in Princeton, Red Bank and Morristown, NJ.

U.S. Trust hired Rowland “Chip” Bankes as head of trading. Prior to joining U.S. Trust, Bankes served as managing director at R.W. Pressprich in Boston.
