Hey all,

Does Smith Barney hire after college or do they require something like 5 years in the business?

Also to be more specific I have sales experience and other good working experience during college.

All of the major wirehouses will show a preference for experienced hires, as they can more realistically be expected to have connections that would play in well to their ability to develop client relationships. You may find it much easer to find a position supporting an established producer with the expectation that after 3-4 years you would enter the training program. Regional factors, as well as the specific university you graduated from will also be under consideration.

I would recommend applying to several different firms and seeing how interviews play out.

I am a recent college grad, and I have been interviewing with both Smith Barney and Merrill. So, yes, they do hire or look to hire recent college grads, but like was mentioned above, you will have to show them that you are ready for a fa position.
