Series 7 Activation/Sponsorship
6 RepliesJump to last post
Hello All,
I'm thinking about taking the Series 7 exam and using STC as my guide/classroom training. However, I do not have a sponsor and I graduate in Dec. My question is can I still take the exam, pass and have whoever I work for in December (ML or MS) activate it for me? How long do I have after passing the exam to find someone to sponsor/activate it for me? thank you.

You have to call the 800 number on the back of your license to activate it.

Finding a sponsor can be an exercise filled with potential disasters.
A lot of young guys and gals conclude that the most important thing to do is get their licenses, and that once they have them they will be instantly attractive to the top tier employers.
That is not the case. A top tier employer is not going to hire you if they do not believe you're capable of passing the exams. So, what they're looking for is experience and/or a network that can be tapped for business.
If you do not bring experience or a network to the table it's foolish to expect to get an offer, but not as foolish as accepting one when you're too young to succeed.
Do not pay attention to the kids who are reading this and claiming that they're doing just fine in spite of the fact that they're still wet behind the ears. They have confused a bull market with ability. It's all about staying power, you don't want to be a flash in the pan, here today but gone tomorrow.
I think it's a strategic mistake to try to join a wirehouse before you're at least thirty. The odds are long that you won't make it regardless of how old you are, but the younger you are the longer the odds.
Join a team, learn your way around, and when you're about thirty spread your wings and fly.
You're running a marathon, not a sprint. There is no hurry to jump into the deep end until you have all the tools at your disposal--and chief among them is experience and credibility.
Every guy and gal who came out of college figured they were God's gift to the business world.
You're not.

Gee, I've found that to be true of most of the faculty, as well.

I can still remember everyone in my office telling me to enjoy the time I spent studying for the test because that was a vacation compared to being in production. I thought I was sooo cool because I dominated that test, now who the hell the cares.
