How did everyone make out?  Was anyone else working?

I had great luck from 9:30-10:45 and then it seemed like people went out to enjoy the warm weather we had in Wisconsin today.

I set 6 appts this morning working 9:30-12:30, 3 were with brand new prospects. 2 were with existing prospects, 1 was with a client who bought a 529 3 years ago and never wanted to do anything else until now.

Reminds me of my EJ days, working the promo and then sending in your results. Good job though.

I don’t really have anyone else busting ass at my office so I like to compare results with my e-colleagues to keep me motivated to keep pushing rather than sit back and relax after the big summer I had.

I did face to face contacts. 10 new contacts. One very very promising one, and another 4 very strong ones.

Terrible… too nice in my area also…A lot of people out doing stuff in their yard before it starts to snow.

That's why today was perfect for f2f

My wife and I went to the office to work. I took a break to get us some food at the local bar. Struck up a conversation with three retirees. All three set appointments.

Good job everyone on this thread!  I had an appointment and got a small Roth, nothing to brag about but doing business always feels good.

M, care to walk us through your appt. setting process with these guys?

Nov 7, 2009 10:07 pm

Got to the bar around 1:30. It’s a nice local-owned business (owner is a client of mine) with ridiculously good burgers, THE best sweet potato fries, hot waitresses, a smoke free environment and TEN large screen TVs with a different game on.

I ordered my wife’s burger and my turkey burger (please don’t take my man-card - those turkey burgers are awesome!) and sat next to one of the old-timers.

The guys next to me said, “That turkey burger must be for the Missus”. In honesty, I had to let him know in fact, “No, it’s mine. But I got bacon on it, along with some pepperjack cheese. Everything in moderation, right?”.

“For sure, son. Is your wife pregnant?”

“No, we just decided to go into the office a bit to get a lot of paperwork done. She has a lot on her plate right now, and I decided I should be the one to go pick up lunch.”

“That’s a good man. You hear that Amos? I didn’t think his generation knew how to work hard. What do you do?”

“I own a financial planning firm right down the street, Moraen’s Brilliant FInancial Strategies. We just put an office in XYZ town as well.”

“Ain’t never hear of you.”

“That’s ok. You will. Why do you think I’m working on a Saturday?”

"You know, my broker’s been ducking me since this whole mess got started. Shoot, if I didn’t have my pension from the Army, I wouldn’t know what to do."

Me, “You were in the Army? Me too. What was your branch or MOS?”

“11B. 22 years”.

"Yep, good thing you got that pension. How are things set up for your family for when you drink yourself to death here at the bar?"

Chuckling, “I reckon they’ll be ok”.

“Maybe. Tell you what. I normally charge $150 to look over someone’s plan. But since you are a vet, I’ll take a look free of charge. What do you say you come by the office on Monday around noon? We’ll look over your stuff, and then I’ll bring you back here and buy you a beer? Sound fair?”

"Son, that’s a deal."

Amos, "Hey now. What about my beer?"

Me, "You a vet?"

Amos, “Vietnam, 3 tours.”

“You get the same deal as Clyde here (he acutally introduced himself earlier). Come by the same time on Tuesday.”

“What about Walt?”

“What about Walt? Walt, you want a free beer too? It’s the least I can do. All the sh!t you guys went through so that we could adjust tactics probably saved my a$$.”

"Sure thing - What’s your name son?"

There was a little more after that, after they remembered other appointments, and such. But while my wife’s burger got cold, I set those three appointments. That also wasn’t exactly how the convo went, but you get the gist. Just talking to some old timers. Was I lucky they were veterans? You bet. But sometimes luck can help you get business. But not if you don’t talk to it.

Nov 7, 2009 10:15 pm

that was smooth

Nov 7, 2009 11:28 pm

All good stuff Morean, you veterans have a brotherhood that people who have never served (myself included) wouldn’t understand.  Good for you using it to your advantage.

Had you worked in corporate America you’d have a network of connections you could mine for business so being in the service probably makes it harder since your connections are spread all the country and difficult to mine.  You might as well use your time in the military to your advantage in other ways like you just described!

good job guys.  Great story Moraen.  Thats awsome.  I worked 3 hours, got  some paperwork done, touched base with a few clients that i know work a ton durning the week which was nice.  I just started working every other weekend for the first time in 7 years but really enjoy it now that I’ve started.  It was super nice out today here as well so had to get home to enjoy the weather.  I do have about 1 mm in assets coming in next week which will be nice. too bad most is in kind.  Oh well.  Have a good weekend everyone.

What part of Wisconsin? We had a lake house on Legend Lake, outside of Shawano. I love it up there. [/quote]

Shawno is a great area.  I live a couple hrs SW of there.

Good point about working Saturdays Brady, I kinda stopped over the summer because I was having a hard time reaching people on Saturday Mornings and now with the weather turning cold again it's getting easier.  I always feel like I accomplished something even if I only work for 3hrs on Sat, and then I don't feel guilty if I leave early on an afternoon during the week if I have something going on.
Nov 8, 2009 1:15 pm

Hey BB - are you going to be hunting around Thanksgiving?

I’ll be up there with my father-in-law. Near Mosinee. I’m not even sure what the place we’re going is called. All I know is that it’s a long freakin’ drive with a kid in the car.

I live near Milwaukee.  I was not in the office on Saturday, but I walked over to the local Mickey D's where all the oldtimers meet for breakfast, and had two good conversations, and one appointment..............:)

Of those 6 specific appointments I hammered out Sat:

1 - Went nowhere
1 - Pitched some Med Advantage, will decide between me and another guy, I’m calling next week
1 - Factfinder - Went to write BOE, they decided to actually let me fact-find with them so I picked up a stack of old whole life policies and some smallish IRA Variables, They agreed to buy BOE next week and want ideas on everything else
2 selling appts, wrote $300FYC in insurance premium and $19,000 in A-share Funds
1 still to be done tomorrow

That’s about an extra 2 relationships and $800 so far for setting extra appts on Saturday

Nov 13, 2009 12:48 am

I’m calling next Saturday because of this thread. Never called before on a Sat. just DK.

Nov 13, 2009 11:42 pm

I’m setting the goal of hitting the office by 9AM tomorrow so I can get my calls in.

I scheduled a noon appt to write a small ($25k) SPIA.
