I'm a new FA here in arizona. I accepted this position under the premise that I'd be a jr. broker with another FA in my office. Shortly after accepting (signing the company)the offer, she sold her book to a guy who is a complete a-hole in my office. She said that I maintain my role despite the sell. I requested a meeting so that I could confirm this and define my role. After a week w/o answers I decided I couldn't waste any time and started prospecting on my own. It's been two months since I've been in production and not only do I not have access to the clients, it's clear to me that I'm not in the plan.

Of course I'm pissed at myself for not getting this in writing. I'm 99% sure there is no recourse. Should I go about my business, building my business, or insist upon having the previous arrangement honored?

I went from looking forward to coming in each day, to dreading it - realizing that my life will be nothing but prospecting for AT LEAST the next 3-5 years.

Both … with enthusiasm IMHO.

If you search for another position, try to get on at a bank. Since it's obvious you dislike the idea of prospecting, a bank broker position might be a better fit. Not saying you wouldn't ever have to prospect, as a bank broker, but you'd almost certainly be assured of doing less of it than a wirehouse broker.

Good luck!

FWIW, I don't mind prospecting, completely. In fact each day I get better and it feels less like a chore and more like a step towards building an empire. My main frustration is that it was not something I was expecting to do to the degree with which I'm doing it. I hate to play the victim but I feel like one. A victim of my own stupidity for not getting shiet in writing.

Thanks to both of you. I appreciate the suggestions.

Go after her clients.  She’s a <UNT that can’t keep her word.
