Hey - Congrats to you too! I wish I were starting earlier, but I have to wait until 5/19 due to some previous commitments. (My mortgage banker has insisted that I wait until May so that I can get the loan to refinance a house that I’m flipping.) Good luck!

[quote=richchick]THEY OFFERED ME THE JOB!! They offered me the job! I accepted. I am THRILLED. So long, boring engineering career! Thanks everyone for the advice. Even the mean and sarcastic advice. I tried to be serious, not too cheerful, not talk about investing.  Now I will have to work, work, WORK to not be the one of two people who don’t make it…because I’m not going to have a job waiting for me if I fail. Not an option.

Just remember GETTING the job is the easy part; KEEPING it is much harder; making anything close to what you have been making as an engineer is even harder.

I'm sure this won't dampen your enthusiasm much, as you will surely be among the few to beat the odds (who isn't certain of that at the beginning?), but where did you hear that one of two people don't make it?  The statistics I've seen for new news to the industry is that by the end of year 5 a full 85-90% are no longer there.

Be careful what you wish for ... and good luck!

Congratulations, RC!  As a former sales trainer in another industry, if I can offer some advice?..

The advice I will offer moving forward is to practice role-playing over and over again so you can handle a client's objections without hesitatations and to probe for underlying obstacles to buying the investment.  You will learn all about this in training.  Know your products inside and out.  You can be very successful (and you will be since you are positive and determined) in sales without prior sales experience if you have the nack for thinking quickly on your feet.  The most successful sales reps I've trained are individuals like yourself who are hungry to learn new sales techniques and current material.    One  more bit of advice and this is very important....stay away from any negativity.  Negativity in the sales industry can spread like cancer.  Surround yourself with positive people in the industry in which you sell.   I wish you the best of luck!   P.S.  I am going to my final EDJ interview shortly.
