I have a question to any former or current Edward Jones IR's...

If you leave Edward Jones before your three year anniversary will they come back at you for training costs?  And if you leave before you physically receive your last paycheck can they withhold that for any reason?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I left before my 3 years were up.  They did not hold my last check and they will only potentially come after you if you go to another firm or bank doing similar business.  Read your contract.

I would not expect them to withhold your paycheck.  If you leave but don't stay in the business you owe nothing per the contract.

If you become employed by another NYSE or NASD firm they WILL go after you for training cost reimbursement.  Don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise, as they have been aggressively pursuing this reimbursement for at least a year now.  It makes no difference what your production was or any of the reasons for leaving.  You should have a lawyer review the contract before leaving, however, even if he says you have a case, EDJ will still pursue it and it will cost you money to defend.

They first send a letter telling you how much you owe.  If you don't respond they file an arbitration claim.  At any point during this process you may be able to negotiate a settlement.  You should hire an attorney to respond and negotiate, which will cost somewhere around $5000 (and this is before ever going to arbitration).
