Hi all,

I posted awhile back on leaving Ed Jones before KYC. I stuck it out and I am so glad I did. The doorknocking is going great, I have a large list of good quality contacts. I think earlier I became so scared about people not liking me at their door. Well, I’ve put that out of my head. If they don’t like me, boo hoo, I move on. Anyway, I have the summer regional coming up in a bit, I’m wondering what that entails. Is it mostly work, or a good mix or work and relaxing? Also, probably a dumb question, is there an alcohol policy? I don’t want to look like a complete moron. I have no idea whatsoever about what goes on at these. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I have no idea what the Edward Jones policy is, or if indeed they have one.  I will however address the larger question, that being alcohol consumption at business or quasi-business functions.  DON'T DO IT.  If you feel you must have a drink, get a weak mixed drink and nurse it.   I'm certain that all of us here can relate horror stories from any number of businesses where careers ended from indiscrete drinking.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking along the same lines. I had heard from a previous FA that it is a three day booze and schmooze fest, but I have a hard time believing that. I refrained from any alcohol at the recruiting dinner, although the regional leader offered more than once. Anyway, I suppose it would be best to just refrain.

From what I remember the Regional Meeting consisted of morning meetinga of the reps and some workshops pertaining to business.  Presentations by the sponsors, usually one of the preferred vendors.  If you have a spouse be warned that they will be forced to attend an indoctrination meeting about how to be a good Stepford …I mean Edward Jones wife.  Very condescending, but extremely funny when my husband attended the meeting and reported back to me about what they said.  If you have kids they will provide some entertainment for them and a babysitting facility for the evening dinners so you and your spouse can attend.  If you don’t have children, this is a good thing because they keep the kids away from the adults.

The rest of the day is usually free for you to do some sightseeing or some activities that they have lined up for you that are actually pretty fun. The big finale is a circle jerk dinner where they give out prizes for production, praise the Goodnight guys who were handed 20 to 30 million on a silver platter and all suck up to the regional leader.
Don't over induldge in alcohol and make an ass out of yourself.  I have a tendency to get really blunt...ok rude.... if I overindulge and tell everyone what I think of them if I'm not enjoying myself.  So do like I did.  Drink in your room with your spouse and have sex.

I heard that they even wipe your butt for you But you can only go on the times when

 you are  told.

Okay…I can’t stand here and read all this stuff…THEY DON’T WIPE YOUR ASS…okay…you can go whenever you like…

Babbling,

Thank you for writing what I think is the funniest post I have ever read on here. Unfortunately, I am single so there won’t be any drinking and sex with my spouse. No kids to bring. Because I’m on my own, am I gonna have the random roommate that I’ve never met in my life, KYC style? Or do we get our own rooms even if we have no family coming? I’m a social person, but my roommate situation in St. Louis was very awkward. Never met the guy, he snored louder, and farted louder than any other person I’ve ever known. I laid awake thinking that this is the most awkward I’ve ever felt, and he’s not even awake. Either way, I’d love to hear that they put us up in our own room. Thanks guys!

Babs is right on track as far as the regional meeting structure.  Short Thursday afternoon meeting, Friday morning meeting, Saturday morning meeting.  Both Sat & Sun meetings are done about noon.  Those are typical business meetings.  You, as a new guy, should learn a thing or two.

When meetings are done, it's all free time.  So from noon til whenever you get to do whatever you feel like.  Take a nap, golf, fish, work on your tan, shop, etc.  You get the point.

There is plenty of alcohol if you are so inclined.  There will probably be a couple of people who will get so drunk that they put their jobs in jeapordy.  Don't be one of those guys.  Have some beer, wine, etc, but just don't make a spectacle of yourself.

Babs' recollection of the awards dinner is a little tainted.  Or maybe fuzzy from the alcohol that was consumed that evening.  They give out production awards, acknowledge GKN plans that were completed, new FA awards, etc.  The most contact I have with my RL that evening is to shake his hand when I get my production award.  It's the one time during the year that you'll get a standing ovation for the work you've done and the money you've made the rest of the year.  It is what it is.    Do a search on Jonesnet for Regional meetings and look for the regional meeting home page.  There's info there to answer the majority of your questions.    No roommate, unless you find one while you're there.

Assuming the standards/budget are the same in every region, you will have your own room. I am in the same life situation and career point as you and had my own very spacious and comfortable room.

On another note, you haven’t truly experienced farting and snoring roommates until you share an open bay barracks with a platoon of thirty other soldiers.

I hope that's not part of the EDJ training.

I think it depends on your region.  I went to one of those regional meetings alone and was given a room to myself.  But since I was the only female rep and I guess Jones frowns on co-ed roommates (party poopers) I was given my own room.  You might ask, and if you want to, pay for the other half of the room so you could get a room to yourself.   At least you didn't have my roommate at KYC.  She wanted to shack up with every guy that was there and tried to bring her dweeby conquests back to the room drunk as a skunk at 3am.   I think she lasted 3 days at KYC.  Probably walking a street corner somewhere.   HEY!!  maybe you'll run into her when you're door knocking.  Are you in Texas?  (kidding )
