It has been a rough few weeks and I am the only trainee in my office. I have had my number for about 3 months. Yesterday I felt completely “green” and that everything I was doing was wrong and due to lack of experience. Thankfully it was all internal and not in front of clients and prospects. Any words of wisdom from someone who has been in this position and how do you push through and posture yourself as an expert.

Who do you work for?  I assume a wirehosue or something?  Could you epxand a little on what you mean by “everything I was doing was wrong…”.  Is it bad closing, bad prospecting, etc?

Befriend one of the top producers in your office who built their business from scratch at your firm. When I started out the heavy hitter in the office took a liking to me even though I was straight out of college. Best advice he ever gave me was to find money, prospect with munis, ignore the stock of the day or mutual fund of the week. Granted, this was back in 94, but his point always was people care more about not losing money than making money and everyone hates paying taxes. I went from being on goals each week to moving up the production ladder in a matter of months.
