Janus Capital Group has made Eric Hargens, former executive at Van Kampen Funds, its divisional sales manager. Hargens will oversee 14 sales directors who work with broker/dealers, banks and independent financial planners in the Midwest and Southeastern U.S.

Merrill Lynch signed on 12 Piper Jaffray advisors for its new Wayzata, Minn., office. The group has more than $1.2 billion in assets under management.

Stephen Robinson and Trent Miller have been appointed managing directors for Stanford Private Wealth Management in Dallas. Prior to accepting their newly created positions, Robinson and Miller were with Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.

Donald Cassidy, senior research analyst at Lipper, retired last month after nearly 16 years with the fund-research group. Cassidy plans to focus on his educational foundation, the Retirement Investing Institute.
