If you are developing a broker team, reading “Are You Doing Business or Building One?” could help you create the right framework for success.

The book teaches you to think strategically instead of tactically. To build a business you must distance yourself from the daily minutia and focus instead on the bigger picture. You must create opportunities instead of chase sales, says author and consultant Richard Zalack.

“Learning how to create something versus how to get something done starts with envisioning what the perfect business would be, then developing a game plan to get there,” Zalack writes. A solid plan addresses what to do, with whom to work and which opportunities to pursue, he adds.

In Chapter 5, Zalack says shifting your mind-set from working in your business to working on it transforms you into a leader who creates and designs the work, instead of someone who does the work.

Next, Zalack discusses how to delegate results, not tasks. “This means trusting staffers with the authority to get things done while still, as the leader of the company, sharing the responsibility for the results,” he says.

The book (ISBN 0970086903) is published by Praxix Press and can be purchased for $12.95 at www.focusfour.com.
