Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881, and for more than 125 years, the Red Cross has been the place where Americans reach out to those in need. America's largest humanitarian organization is led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement.
