So, are the stores completely empty because of bad inventory management, or because people have been buying everything up?

By the way, I don’t think a bear market is coming - I meant to put a question mark after that.

I have read that retail pulled it out at the 11th hour this year.  What makes you say stores are completely empty?

I went to a large, local mall yesterday (everything in Brooks Bros is 40% off) and was surprised at how busy it was.  Lots of cars in the lots and enough people in the mall to make walking through it an adventure.  I’m not predicting a bull market…just relating my experience from yesterday.

I went to the mall pre xmas and yesterday and it was packed.  I live in NYC metro area though.  Just relaying my experience

I would like personally to thank Jesus for the Holiday retail sales

In all seriousness...seems to have been a decent holiday for retailers in my area...although lots of dough here.  Last year the malls were dead....unless of course you walked into the Apple Store!!!...That's about when I had my clients buying in....they are very happy with me at this point!

Wife and I went to two malls.  Nothing on the shelves or on the hangers (some stuff, but it was pretty bare).

We went this past weekend, the malls were busy, plenty of stuff in stores, seemed pretty normal.  Maybe regional variations.

Did she waste any money on anything stupid?    (it was on sale)
No.  Because there was nothing on the shelves (thank God).

However, yesterday she found some GREAT sales (sarcasm).

I hate “sales”.  She doesn’t understand that she isn’t “saving” money.  That she’s spending it.  For somebody so brilliant, sometimes she is remarkably ignorant.

willfully ignorant…it’s like when I “accidentally” drink too much.

They are trained this way.  They are professionals.       We have no chance.     Acceptance of this fact brings some peace.

You know what else kills me?  She thinks that a $60 brand new router (which we do need because the five-year old one we have is dying) is too expensive, but a $100 basket, on sale, for $60 is a good deal.  WTF!?

I have a better dancing girl flash - but I’m having trouble locating the source to post on this website.  Only have it on an old email.
The problem is that she can't really see what the router does.  I'm assuming that you're talking computer routers and not woodworking routers.  You should let the internet go down for a few days and see if she agrees that $60 on a router is a good deal.    My wife, though very frugal, has some of the same tendencies as yours.  Spending an extra $200 on a double oven that can cook at two different temps at the same time is a good thing.  Spending $300 on a PS3 that doubles as a Blu-Ray player is bad.

Found it.  Added it as avatar, but the small size doesn’t do it justice.
