Oh, and by the way...congratulations.  YOU WILL LOVE IT!  The worst day as an indy is still better than an average day at the clone factory.

Thanks guys. Any words of advice as I get ready to make the leap?

I set mine up after leaving EDJ because I didn't want to tip my hand. I left in October, waited until mid December and had my attorney file everything to be up and going for Jan 1. Then set up payroll on quickbooks and everything else fell in to place. Good luck, best move ever! I have never been happier in my entire life

Make sure you really NEED an LLC, S-corp, etc. right now.  Also, if you can find an experienced assistant with knowlege of the new firm's system, use one (even if just for 30 days to get accounts open and ACATs in)...ask local recruiter if there's anyone around that fits that description.

I set up my LLC in advance, but couldn't set up the RIA until after I left (and that took about a month).

I left the last selling week of May this year, had everything ready to set up the next week. The babysitter Jones assigned to look after my clients didn't have a clue about the business and with recent events that only made it easier to transfer every one of my top clients. My old office still doesn't have a FA after three months.  It is so amazing to breathe fresh air for the first time since my first day with Jones.

I just celebrated my first year of freedom... I knew I was leaving for 4 months but we went on our last trip... B24, I used to read all your pro Jones posts, and wonder if i was doing the right thing... In a year or so Hulk will be on our side. Good Luck it was the best decision ever. Oh yeh my CPA set me up as an S-Corp before I left....
