Very recently (beginning Oct 2009 hires), EDJ changed their compensation plan for new hires in Canada. Now the salary begins after passing the Securities course. EDJ is saving about 2 months of wages and this is part of plan to profitability. Has anything changed in the US for new hires?

hahahahahaha!!!

Yeah, a buddy of mine just got hired.  They're paying him about .20 over MINIMUM WAGE until his Can Sell.     Seriously.   He and I literally had the same former employer, job title and pay when we got hired.  Difference is, they paid me $3/hr more.

They do it because they can.  The job market is flush with seekers, why pay more than you need to? Plus all those trainees lie about their hours anyway so it all works out in the wash.

Or perhaps they are looking to hire older workers with savings. By the time the new guy has spent his savings, or his wife is tired of his all work and little pay, he'll leave and they can put some other new guy in there and repeat the process.

This is a massive generalization but it happens more often than people think.
