Ok, you're stranded on a desert island and night is fast approaching. You've got to keep warm, but there isn't any dry wood on the island. What do you do?...

Why, just take out your Apple laptop and turn it on. You'll have a roaring fire in no time!

Sorry, my meds ran out yesterday.

I was referring to the nationwide recall of laptop batteries. You know, turn on your laptop and have a roaring fire in no time?..... (crickets chirping)......

"Well, that's all tonight, folks. I'll be appearing at the Sheraton all next week, so be sure and buy your tickets early."

Do you do bar mitzvahs as well?

But, it is not Apple’s that are blowing up.  At least not that I have heard.  I think Dell has had the worst cases.  Has Apple had problems?

Sep 22, 2006 12:19 am

Yes, Apple and Dell. But to clarify, it's actually the batteries, not the laptop itself. I've imagined using my laptop, showing a client some mutual fund performance and having it burst into flames; with me exclaiming, "Now, that's a hot investment!".

And yes, I do bar mitzvahs and senior rec centers.

It’s interesting to occasionally peruse the bowels of rrmag’s forum to see what kind of sh*t shows up.  Bravo men!  (and ladies, if present)

No insult intended to my respected fellow board members.

Closest thread I could find to post this question:

Does anyone know of a decent place to get laptop batteries and chargers? I tried ebay, amazon etc and keep getting second hand crap from china!

You would think a spammer would have touched on this topic by now instead of freaking DVDs and sports jerseys.

Thanks.

N.D. buy American tech! you got some options, what's your closest decent size city?

Nov 8, 2010 8:57 pm

I have a Dell if that counts for "American Tech"?  As far as cities, I guess I am in the middle of BFE a couple hours west of from Charlotte, N.C.

Nov 9, 2010 5:19 pm

N.D., Yep, Dell counts! They put out a good machine. Always been a dell man myself. I just bought a new Dell Precision T5500: 8 core processor, 12 gigs of ram, three monitors; unbelievable monster and couldn't be happier! So what you need to do is head over to a "Batteries Plus" store over in Charlotte they have high-quality batteries for every device imaginable, including lap tops. Maybe you got one nearer you? Maybe not being in BFE! On the other hand I'm not so sure I'd call Asheville BFE! That's God's country pal, the mountains, Biltmore Estate, you have had a lot of retirement money move into the area there as well which means both you and the local economy should be doing pretty good in BFE!

Nov 9, 2010 5:58 pm

Thanks JohnnyReb, I completely forgot about Batt Plus. I think there is one a lot closer then Charlotte. You are 1000X correct about West NC and East TN. Tons of retirees and good reason too! Definitely God's country... very beautiful!!

p.s. "8 Core"?? I knew they offered a six but didn't know they had 8 also!! How much was that set up? Real Nice!!

$5,000.00 US! I can throw what ever I want at it and the processors never break a sweat. One may run at 15% and the others just sit there at maybe 2%! The 64 bit os enables use of any memory over 4 gigs so this has added a lot of additional ram as well. I was running an old Dell 8250 which was a monster when I bought it years ago, but its now in the nursing home.

N.D. Is that you in your war room? ;-)  So what do you think? Is he a "head-and-sholders" kind of guy - OR - is he the narrow sideways channel type?

Nov 9, 2010 7:10 pm

Yeah, don't I wish!

H&S/narrow? Hell I don't know but Sender is definitely a money making son of a gun, that's for sure. I wonder if he had the talent before SAC or gained it there and left with some apparent money making skillz?
