I have Roogled about this topic, but all I have found is vague info. What is a hybrid model? Is it a hybrid of having a d/b and also being a RIA?

Thanks

Yes... Almost every b/d offers their reps the option of being an IAR of the b/d's RIA. This is a necessity if you plan to do any fee based business.

Think of it this way -

B/D = Series 7 = Broker = Suitability confirmed and commission based sales per transaction
RIA = Series 66 = Advisor = Ongoing fiduciary responsibility and fee based sales per AUM

There are many variations of the above in how it can be arranged but this should help you get a general idea.
