I’m curious, what type of software, beyond a basic spreadsheet, everyone is using to manage their RIA books. Think some form of revenue and expense tracking and ongoing balance sheet, cash flow and income statements.

Ditto.  Pro version can be bought online for about $150.  Payroll subscription is about $250-300/year.  Can do everything you asked and more.

Outsourced.  But bookeeper uses some fancy version of QB or similar.

It became very difficult for many business owners to manage their financial records due to lack of knowledge and inaccurate reporting. QuickBooks is very easy and cost effective accounting software, which keep track of all deals in well structured form. Using this software, you can scan and upload your signatures to prepare checks as shown at Checkomatic site and make your unique business identity in crowd. This automated process is much simpler than writing checks by hand.
