While driving in to the office this a.m. and listening to CBC News. The discussion was between Bruce Kidd ( former Olympic Medal Winner ) and a PC Gaming Player from Las Vegas.

The discussion revolved around " New Games " that should receive Official Olympic Status. The player from Las Vegas suggested that PC GAMING should be recognized as an Olympic Sport of the 21st. Century. His argument is that Video Games are truly an International Sport   May I suggest that perhaps " Beer Drinking " , " Hot Dog Eating " and " Wine Tasting " be also considered as legitamate new sports.

As well as watermelon seed spitting, booger picking, and pizza crust tossing.

Spiff … not sure if I heard correctly but apparently this is the last Olympic Summer Games that will have Baseball as a sport? The small bit of the interview I heard was something to the effect it was perceived to be a North American Sport ( U.S. & Canada ). I guess the esteemed Members of the Olympic Committee just want to make sure NOBODY is offended by such an outrage…

Yeah, I heard that too.  I guess Japan is now in North America.  Perhaps they haven’t noticed, but a ton of the players these days are from outside the US.   They added table tennis, but they’re taking away baseball.  Now, I like watching a great ping pong (let’s not try to fancy it up by calling it table tennis) match like the next guy, but c’mon.

South Korea actually beat the US team in the prelims.  If it's a North American only sport, how'd those Koreans and Japanese get so good?

Or the Cubans or the players from the Dominican Republic. Ah, I get it, the creeping of the North Americans to take over the world Waiting for the Chinese to put forth Yak Milking and sweep the event. Gold , Silver & Bronze a sweep. I understand that the Tibetans really challenged them but the Chinese know how to keep a strong arm on their competition.

I think they should add MMA as an olympic sport.

I personally would like to see staring contests added to the Olympics.

[/quote]   I agree.  They could just have MMA instead of boxing, wrestling, jujitsu, and what the heck, fencing.  Give the MMA guys a knife and tell them to go at it.  While I like MMA, I think it's a bit too violent for the Olympic committee.   Any sport where blood is typically spilled probably isn't going to make it.

Spiff and Spice come on, given the history and ethics of the Olympic Committe … in their fabulous digs in Switzerland. A couple of envelopes with some cash , a few dinners and perhaps a nice vacation. It could be done.

Yeah, as it turns out, watching 8 year olds isn't much fun.

Come On Guys…do you think that the Chinese Government would falisfy a Passport…their Passports said they were 16 How about that cute little 8 year girl singing “Ode to the Homeland”. Oopps she was not singing the song , another little girl that had a better voice but apparently did not have the looks

All in the name of that Olympic Spirit.
Aug 13, 2008 9:32 pm

No, the Chinese gov't would never do such a thing.  I wonder if they're going to let them start driving now too.

Aug 13, 2008 9:35 pm

The New China…of course they will issue a driver’s permit. China has opened their arms to democracy and capitalism. Of course the Internet Access maybe a bit of a problem.

I have a question about the Olympics. I just turned it on and unfortunately had to see numerous dudes bouncing on a diving board with the smallest speedos I have ever seen. Can’t they just wear normal swimming trunks?
