Is it legal to give out financial advice w/o a license?

Could you be held accountable, if, for example, at a topic at a party, if you said "invest in this...or that...do this or that with your money... etc".

Or if you gave advice out on a website, are you liable since you don't have a license?

This would be a good question for Suzy.

But I think her listeners would not be interested. Compared to the icing, even the cupcake is not tasty enough.

This may be why the savings rate in America is negative - the media, and consumers can't be held accountable.

Professionals can be held accountable. They are licensed to sell real food, they can't just give away Krispy Kremes.  Please respect the professionals on this forum.

This topic is not about Suze Orman.  Entirely different topic.

I respect "profs" on the site but if I get bashed, I bash back.

So I gather you do not have an answer to this question?

If I were you I would carry a disclaimer that looks something like this:

The following advice is for entertainment purposes only. Especially if you know anything about money I’m sure you will be laughing at the advice I am going to give you. This does not constitute sound financial advice as I have been deemed incompetent in a majority of the states in the United States of America. It should be further noted that I learned everything I know from Suze Orman, the most brilliant Financial Advisor in the World, and my local library. Support your local library, they have a because they let you read all those books for free. If you follow my advice and lose all of your money I apologize from the bottom of my .

Just have everybody you talk to sign this and I’m sure you will not be on the hook legally, But if you are there is always the insanity plee.

Hey DWEEB.  I wasn't talking about me.  Did I mention that I give financial advice?  There's a swell cat who gives advice on another site and someone accused her of dispensing advice without a license so it was just a question.  But I like your take on the  ...it even made me f...

You people act like she is stealing business away from you or something. Geeze!  I met all of you are "closet watchers" and never miss her show.  sweet!

And I might add that the many viewers of her show and the people who buy her books apparently don't think she's incompetent.

And if I might also be so bold as to add: no one twists the arm of any fa company who decide to advertise on her show either.  They also pay a fee to advertise on her show (e.g. sponsor her show) and it is their choice.

He made a fortune on that philosophy, just like Suze.

Pardon me grotesquelady thats the impression you gave me. I don't have anything against suze orman, you just sound like a kook saying you want to be an fa because suze inspired you to do so. When I was 10 Michael Jordan inspired me to be a professional basketball player... man I shouldnt have let go of my dreams

Well, that's the nicest you've been to me all day: thank you.  I knew you had it in you.

Joey is finally being a nice boy and you go and spoil it all. For shame.

Hmmm, I've had a little interviewing experience here, Dweeb.  Don't take everything so literally. I'm really not that interested in the career afterall after posting here.

Thats great because if you can’t hack criticism on a forum you probably wouldn’t fare to well out there . You gotta admit you walked right in to all of the stupid comments you got

Feb 10, 2007 5:33 am

I didn't realize this was a "roasting" site - I thought it was a posting site; I had no intention of picking a fight with anyone.

Hmmm, interesting that you only dropped in just to respond to my posts though.  Do I make you nervous?  A prior member and just dropped in to respond to my posts: I'm very flattered.

Not working as an fa, it sounds like clients can be really brutal and you'll just have to be ready to hack the criticism when they, the clients, call you names, tell you that you are fat, have a 5 o'clock shadow....and worse, they may not think you are a sexy lady. Woe! I could never have that.

I'll keep that in mind.  Thanks.

Feb 10, 2007 5:36 am

Wait! This BobbyRicky Bob has inspired me again. Yes, I'm newly inspired to contemplate again.  Man, I just want to be able to insult just like you: can I be your apprentice.  So if you're good at insulting and taking jabs: then you'll make a great fa!

Now: by Joe, that's joedabroker, I've finally got it!

Ok, guys give her a break! She calls herself a sexy lady not a smart one.

I will engage in no more “personal insult” conversations.  Back to the “topic” or nothing else to discuss here.

Bye bye then!
