okay so I have been in the industry for a couple years, just graduated from college and I already have my 7, 66, and life and health.  I left an independent firm and started at Morgan working for 2 FAs who have a partnership and a good book.  They have no other assistants or junior partners or anything, just me supporting them, and they are demanding.  I’m working hard, coming early and leaving late, etc. but I need to really add some value because I think there could be a real future with them.  They are a little older and their business is definitely not advanced when it comes to organization and operation so I see opportunity for me to implement new techniques possibly.  <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Does anyone have any specific suggestions?  How can I add value to their business and make a real difference?  How do I make sure as their business grows I grow with it and the delegate duties to me?

Thanks.

Become a licensed masseuse, so you can massage their feet after you bring them their coffee.

Are you a boy or girl?

Can you elaborate on what exactly you do everyday? What is so "hard" and "demanding" about it?

Are they allowing you to build your own book on the side?

Bring in business.  Otherwise, you are just a well licensed secretary.

I am doing everything that you could imagine: placing trades, processing paperwork, taking calls from clients regarding admin issues, entering journal entries, running portfolio analysis software, sending out forms for signatures, etc.  It is demaning, but not too demanding.  The FAs are demanding in the sense that there is constantly things to do, never a minute to catch my breath and they ask me 'whats the status of X" 10 minutes after they give the task to me.  That is fine tho, as I said I’ve been working for FAs since my junior year of high school so I know the speed of the business.  I can potentially build my book on the side (I think) but I don’t have a rep # yet and I don’t know how to go about it, thats not what I was really hired to do.

You know how you can add value to their team? work your own book!Otherwise you're working your ass off  until you've done your job for them and they drop you like a sack of horse poopoo or worse, continue being a "glorified secretary" for the remainder of your career.

I'm currently moving to Austin to work for a huge team as well. I told the manager there that the only way you're ever going to get me to back out of a house, force my wife to quit her job, and have us move miles away with no friends and family is to give me 2 contracts, one with the team and i and one for myself.

DO IT!

(and goodluck)

Working capital, I hate to disappoint you, but you are a secretary.  You do sound like an exceptional one.

Talk to the FA's to see if you can do more, but there is a good chance that you'll have to quit to do what you want.

cranky sob...i dont want to reveal my identity.

yes i am deff a secretary but the  FAs are open minded and I think they will let me advance if i show the goods.

Jul 18, 2006 5:39 pm

Does show the goods mean - that you're a woman? Forgive me a rant here.

So if you flop your tits on someone's desk then you can come out an play with the rest of the boys?

Or did I read that wrong?
