Specifically, I'd like some views about the pluses and minuses of producing vs. non-producing branch managers.

This is not intended as a chance to glorify or trash Ed Jones, Indy firms or anything else.

I simply want to hear from folks that have been in both systems.  I personally have only worked in a branch with a producing manager.  I view this as a positive in that our manager is too busy to spend much time bugging us about anything as long as we have sufficient production and no compliance issues.  The downside is that our manager is also a competitor and tends to keep any decent "walk in" clients for himself.

I'd like to hear others' experiences.
