Summit Rustles Up a Cowboy BBQ

Summit Brokerage Services is celebrating their near-perfect score (9.9 out of 10) earned in’s IBD Report Card in style—Western style, that is.

Michael Lang, Corporate Counsel for SummitThe firm’s 85 employees at the Boca Raton, Fla. headquarters participated in a BBQ lunch party on Friday. But what started as just lunch turned into a full-fledged Western-themed office day. Employees got into the spirit by dressing as cowboys and cowgirls, breaking out their hats, cowboy boots and dashing scarves. (That's Michael Lang, Summit's corporate counsel, on the left, getting into the spirit of things.)

“We’re doing this as a 'thank you' to our staff,” says Mindy Clapp, Summit’s marketing director. “We’re never, never ever allowed to wear jeans in the office, so this is a big deal.”

Summit scored a 9.9 in overall advisor experience at the b/d, but earned a perfect 10 from advisors in the operational and support management category. "Summit has tremendous support with a personalized culture that I value," one advisor wrote.

The idea for an employee appreciation event started when Summit’s president, Marshall Leeds, called an impromptu meeting following the publication of the IBD Report Card, Clapp says. He congratulated the home office employees and announced Friday’s lunch.

“Not only am I proud that Summit was recognized as being the number one broker-dealer, but I am extremely proud to say our advisors and our associates are also number one," Leeds says.

The employees celebrated the win with an outdoor lunch, complete with ribs, grilled chicken, beans and corn on the cob.
