Gary Shunk

Gary Shunk,MSW is a Private Family Advisor and Organizational Consultant. He consults nationally to families in business, legacy families and family offices. His expertise focuses on the family and emotional dynamics that accompany affluence as well as the family business environment.  He assists families in facilitating conversations that lead to successful shared decision making, promoting family cohesion and harmony over multiple generations. 


With over 25 years of experience in the fields of social work, psychology, organizational consulting, and leadership development, Gary’s primary mission is helping families create trusting and innovative relationships resulting in optimal family unity.  In addition to his consulting work, he is also an Associate in the Family Business Center at Loyola University Chicago.  He has published articles in Private Wealth Magazine and The Wealth Management Exchange, Family Office Review and been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Private Asset Management, and Investment News. 


Gary is a certificate holder in Family Business Advising and Family Wealth Advising with the Family Firm Institute, as well as Positive Psychology from Kripalu.  He received his MSW from the University of Illinois, and maintains a consulting practice based in Chicago:
