Thematic investing has become very popular over the last few years, but what exactly is it? We all hear of ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) investing as the foundations for thematic investing, but thematic investing encompasses much more than ESG. Technological advances, demographic shifts, life sciences, and infrastructure buildouts, for example, can all be considered thematic investing. These are secular trends occurring in the marketplace that persist over the long-term, which may provide for excellent investing opportunities.
