Part 4: Popularity of other types of annuities

Among advisors from independent firms, investment-only variable annuities were more popular than deferred annuities.

In general, deferred income annuities (48%) were slightly more popular among advisors than investment-only variable annuities (43%). The relative popularity varied among advisor channels, however. Among advisors from independent firms, investment-only variable annuities were more popular than deferred annuities—49% versus 37%, respectively. Meanwhile, among advisors from insurance firms, 85% reported using deferred income annuities, while just 35% used investment-only variable annuities.
