Over the past year, those who make up the world’s super wealthy hit all time highs. There are over 199,235 ultra-high-net-worth individuals with a combined wealth of $27.8 trillion, according to a joint study by Wealth-X and UBS. The report defines UHNW as those with $30 million or more in assets.
But how did these ultra wealthy individuals earn their millions? Approximately 65 percent are self-made, while 19 percent inherit their wealth. About 16 percent can trace their fortunes to a combination of inherited wealth and earned riches.
Here, we take a look at the top five industries in which self-made billionaires are working today, compared to the top five industries from which those with inherited wealth are primarily based.
