Hi,

I am a brand new user of Registered Rep. Forgive me if I am posting my question at a wrong place. I gave my S7 on April 3 and will be studying for S66 after May 2 (as I graduate with my MBA on May 2). I passed 7 with 82%. I took the exam seriously and put in my efforts. I am also going to take 66 seriously as have read many blogs stating not to take 66 light once you pass 7 with good numbers.   Can anyone please suggest what should i buy for S66? STC or Dearborn. I used STC for S7. But I am nt sure if I want to use STC for S66 as have read blogs stating that Dearborn is best. Can anyone throw some light on this?

I used STC for the 66, and I thought it was great. I did the online tutorial thing. I passed.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it. Would you mind if I ask you what is “online tutorial thing.” Do you mean STC S66 manual or is this something like online notes on chapters in S66 manual?

Thank you. I will do that and follow up with you if needed

Here it is:   http://www.stcusa.com/content/courseview.aspx?sid=66   It's the "On Demand" lecture, and you have it for 30 days. It's an online presentation you watch. Well worth $75.   I watched it a couple of times through, and then I went back to sections that I needed more exposure to, and watched those in particular. I took the test like two days after I finished watching it.  It worked great.

I bought the Kaplan 3rd edition manual, drill and exam from ebay for just $25. It think I got a good deal. I also printed out from Kaplan website the Test Alerts which goes with 3rd edition and has the information in it which helps the 3rd edition manual match with the latest 4th edition.

You can check it out here what I am talking about: http://www.kaplanfinancial.com/kfs/assets/Pdf/Test-Alerts-Securities/Series66TestAlert.pdf   Thank you.

I personally used the Fourth Financial Series 66 trainer, it was pretty good, looked just like the software on the actual exam, their materials are great too, very common language in the heavier explanations. It was an instant download too, so I didn’t have to order it from Ebay or Amazon and then wait for it. They have audio books and stuff too, I used the 66 audio book in my car on my LIE commute into NYC everyday, so it was nice to be able to study and drive at the same time, passed first time out. I bought it here:

Kaplan, Dearborn, Passtrack, Fire: All suck.

STC is the only one to use.

If you are serious about it, use STC.

Hi Shah85:

I suggest FIRE Solutions because the FIRE Solutions trainers always return my emails and my phone calls.   I communicated with them 3 or 4 days a week while I was studying with two little kids at home.  I really had little time to study.  The online tutorials are quite helpful.  This combined with access to the Trainer's Notes and a phone conversation with the Trainer really helped.  As opposed to the Series 7, which is more fact based, the Series 66 is more of interpeting situations and reading comprehension.  For this you need the Trainer to highlight the nuances and help you identify what issue a question is driving at.  Here you are often selecting the least bad answer or the most correct answer.   I took the Series 7 and other licensing tests 10 years ago right after I got my MBA, too. So, this is my second time around.  I used STC the first time.  I found FIRE Solutions to be superior because of the personal, one on one communication with the Trainer.  Their predictive tests were quite accurate.  I scored 90 on the 7 and 88 on the 66 largely due to their support.
