Any thoughts on what's going on?

Oct 6, 2008 3:24 pm

I hear there’s something wrong in the credit market.

Again , the Subprime issue and Financial Institutions are the " FACE " of the current situation. As discussed , this is not just U.S. or North American but rather a Global matter.

If I was a Gambler......consider turmoil still to come. No borders or sectors will be immune from this situation. We may soon get much cheaper oil BUT with that there is another price to pay.

World recession, and capitulation by small investors. Check out the Wall Street Journal today, there is an article about how there might be a market rally. A ray of sunshine! There will be a market rally, but when? All you can do is talk tough, and try to enjoy the relative quiet. Maybe Obama will "save" us.

Oct 6, 2008 3:56 pm

Walking ...if you REALLY believe that Obama ( U.S. ) , Harper ( Canada ) or any other politician facing elections are going to save anything.....you must believe in the Tooth Fairy?

Whomever or whatever Party wins ..... it is going to be Butt Ugly. Oh ,  the promises , I don't think so!!!!

The "saving" would have to be spiritual. Or maybe Americans could just save more (probably not  a good idea in a recession). What are you telling your clients?

Oct 6, 2008 4:15 pm

A little hand holding to start. If they have Cash Positions …" let’s watch for buying opportunities in QUALITY companies that are still QUALITY companies". For the more active  clients more of the same as above.

In fairness most of the clients are in conservative portfolios so really watch , listen and inform is the motto du jour.

Snags …credit problem , you think? Kind of like the Mortgage Broker selling a mortgage to unqualified applicant , or perhaps the Bank that approves the mortgage or maybe the Financial Institution that ulimately buys the paper You still make me laugh

Ice … I think that we should DEMAND IMPERICAL EVIDENCE of Snags statement. I am calling him on this

Sorry, can't provide any evidence, because, from what I've heard, no one knows who holds this "bad" paper.
Oct 6, 2008 4:57 pm

Snags …so this is simply an opinion or hearsay evidence on your part?

Oct 6, 2008 5:05 pm

It’s really more of an instinctive gut feeling at this point.  Once businesses and consumers begin having a tough time getting loans and financing, I might be able to draw more concrete conclusions.

I have definitely ruled out the bird flu and anthrax though.

Thank God…not an air born disease. I think you are on the right path : " businesses and consumers begin having a tough time getting loans and financing".

Always go with the " gut " feeling. Ever considered politics? A politician that actually may understand.

Sorry Snags. I didn’t want to tarnish your good name.

Oct 6, 2008 6:13 pm

Thanks Ice. These could also be valid economic theories. The only caveat on Global Warming. The Green / Carbon Credits that can be bought and sold may dismiss part of the theory. Ask Al Gore he seems to have a pretty good understanding of Global Warming and how ( he , sorry not Al ) can make money buying and selling Carbon Credits.

Michael Jackson sounds probable also....the amount of money taken out of circulation to keep up his plastic surgery.

Not sure but could you see if they can be redeemed for Genesee Beer? Am going down to Syracuse in a couple of weeks and need to replenish my American Beer Inventory. Please advise at your earliest covenience.

I would NEVER SMUGGLE alcoholic beverages in to Canada. I always bring only my allowed amount as per Canada Customs regulations. I want to pay excessive Provincial and Federal Taxes…my God given right as a Canadian.

The answer is that you can buy most popular American beers here , just like to buy something different and support a small regional brewer. Who knows , they could sell out to the Chinese and then the beer would be made in China and get recalled due to high lead levels , rat poison or whatever the latest problem.
Oct 6, 2008 7:11 pm

Have Samuel Adams here not the other two mentioned. Yuengling ( Chinese ) hear about the report of Halloween Candy made in China high levels of toxic ingredients having to be recalled today?

Ice , are you trying to poison me?  I don't want to start on my Asia rant.
