Anyone using the JPMorgan U.S. Large Cap Core Plus?

Any other Long Short funds you are using? How are you positioning it in portfolios - core holding?

Great ideas, but none of them are long short (except maybe Rydex, which I'll look at, thanks AGEMAN.

I use Ivy Asset Strat with Blackrock Global - 2 great funds that complement each other.

I'm a big fan of the Blackrock Global, not too familiar with the ivy asset strat.  Why do you like them together?

I use IVY AS, Blackrock Global, First Eagle Global, Mutual Discovery, JPM LC Core, Capital World G&I, Templeton Global Bond, Loomis Sayles Bond, PIMCO TR, some others.

I love Ivy, but it's flexibility is a double-edged sword.  I always get nervous that they could make a bad bet and be wrong big time, just like they were right big-time in 2007.  So I try to limit it to no more than 15% or so (typically 5-10%).  I would love to do more, but I'm just a nervous nellie.

For those that use Blackrock Global, there is a good interview with Dennis Stattman at www.investmentnews.com regarding Global investing.  Go to the Consuelo Mack interviews.
Bull, They're both tactical go anywhere funds but Ivy is more "out of the box" Ivy can be cash, metals, currencies, stocks bonds, really closer to a transparent hedge fund. But they both are free to roam in search of absolute returns.

Do you mean Putnam Absolute Return 100/300/500/700?
Yes. Thanks Ice.  I was going to fix that today but did not get time.

They have such a short track history that I can’t give too much of an opinion. We are using them some as a hedge/market neutral postion no more then 10% mostly closer to 5% in a couple portfolios. We are using them based on risk ie 100=cons 300=mod/cons 500=mod 700=mod/agg.

I think this year you should have decent returns even if you threw a dart so we will see how they do going forward. It can't be as disappointing as DDMAX. We were using it some and it has sucked ass this year.

Ever wonder why fund managers can’t beat the S&P 500? 'Cause they’re sheep, and sheep get slaughtered.

Primo, if he’s not trying to say anything, he’s doing a great job. It must be good to be so focused.

JP Morgan Market Neutral
JP Morgan Highbridge Statistical Market Neutral
Roosevelt MultiCap Core (BULLX) - Not really a L/S, but they do hedge w/ Inverse ETFs and will raise cash
PIMCO Global MultiAsset - not really a L/S either, but a good Flex Fund
Agree w/ Ivy, Blackrock Global, Mutual Discovery, First Eagle Global
Another good one that I have been monitoring is the Permanent Portfolio

Ja*** Advisor Long/short (jlsax)

Gateway Fund (gatex)

Aberdeen Long/short

Aberdeen market neutral

I think jpmorgan also has a decent market neutral fund.

All good picks.  How have you been using PPort?  I can't determine if that is a good proxy for something like PIMCO All Asset, or more like a Global Allocation Fund.  I just can't quite grasp it because it is so unique.

first eagle international is a 1 million minimum if you aren’t grandfathered. mix MDLOX, IVAEX and EAAFX around with PTTDX and NEZYX and look at the results. I will not give the allocation % to screw myself but i challenge you on this as a core holding any day

Do you mean First Eagle Overseas?  Since when?  Or are you talking about First Eagle Global Institutional share class?
