The so-called Magnificent 7 stocks—Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla—account for a disproportionate share of market gains in recent years and that's caught the attention of social media users. All seven stocks are among the top 20 favorite companies mentioned on Instagram and TikTok, according to analysis from fintech Plus500. Aside from the Magnificent 7, Walmart, Nike, Netflix and Uber were among the other most popular stocks.
Plus500 used three factors to compile the index: Instagram media count (20%), TikTok view count (60%) and TikTok video count (20%). It analyzed two hashtags for each company: # companystock and #companyshares. (The analysis used the most common name for each company if it was different from the official title on the stock exchange.)
