Retail Investors Still Dumping Equity Funds, Buying Bonds

The Investment Company Institute reported today that: "Equity funds had estimated outflows of $1.84 billion for the week, compared to estimated outflows of $2.90 billion in the previous week. Domestic equity funds had estimated outflows of $1.82 billion, while estimated outflows from foreign equity funds were $13 million.

"Hybrid funds, which can invest in stocks and fixed income securities, had estimated inflows of $482 million for the week, compared to estimated inflows of $220 million in the previous week.

"Bond funds had estimated inflows of $4.48 billion, compared to estimated inflows of $4.73 billion during the previous week. Taxable bond funds saw estimated inflows of $4.23 billion, while municipal bond funds had estimated inflows of $242 million.

"Data for previous weeks reflect revisions due to data adjustments, reclassifications, and changes in the number of funds reporting. Historical flow data is available on the ICI website."
