During the day, Marc Frederic is a vice president and advisor for Smith Barney's Torrance, Calif., office. By night — or, more accurately, during the morning — he puts on “iridescent, rainbow-colored spats to match his glittery topcoat,” according to the Torrance Daily Breeze. Frederic's alter ego is “Mr. Whimsy,” the pseudonymous children's book poet and writer of Benny's Pets. Frederic says, “You can't read kid's poetry in a business suit.”

Sample Poem:

Mr. Whimsy feels he has the
world's best job to do…
He thinks up rhymes and stories,
then shares them all with you.

He loves to open up his mind,
see what flies in and out.
His thoughts and dreams are always
kind, for that's what he's about.

He roams the World of Whimsy.
Sometimes he'll lead a tour.
At other times he'll grace his books
for folks with signature.

He'll sometimes sip a purple drink
with Magi, who's his friend.
He always quotes a poem or two.
On that one can depend.

His main responsibility is letting
thoughts come through,
Especially when they're riding
smiles which could belong to you.
