I found out this week that my wife has been hiding credit card debt for years. The debt is in excess of $40,000, and is all in her name. We are both in our mid sixties, however not prepared for retirement. I am working, but she is not. I am making good money and am debt free, able to save 40K - 50K a year to make up for bad planning, and will be able to retire in five years. I see three options:

Refinance the debt into a personal loan.

Transfer her debt to my interst free credit cards.

Pay the minimum, and let the debt lapse in the case she passes away. (She is not in the best of health) (Please no judgements)

The first two options will make me liable for the debt after she passes.
