REP. magazine, formerly Registered Rep., has been a leader in putting together lists of wirehouse and independent advisors and broker/dealers for decades. But this is the first time we’re putting all our annual rankings in one “Best of the Best” special section.
Unlike many of our competitors, we are as transparent as possible about our criteria and methodology when publishing a ranking. In the consumer space, rankings of financial advisors are sometimes little more than advertisements, a pay-for-play placement; that will never happen here. Some of the bigger names use a methodology that is so obtuse as to be meaningless. We rank advisors purely on the criteria that matters most for those who want to know who controls the largest amount of client money: assets under management. But for broker/dealer rankings, we take a different tack. Firms on our top independent broker/dealers list are ranked by AUM per advisor, an approach that brings to the top those firms whose business models target upper-tier advisors. And in our annual IBD Report Card and Broker Report Card (on page 40), firms are ranked by another important measure of success: advisor satisfaction.
The following includes the best of the best of REP.’s 2014 rankings. And there’s one new list you haven’t seen before—our annual Top 100 Wirehouse Advisors.
