$2B RIA Eton Advisors Brings on New President

Brian Hughes has had a 30-year career in financial services, most recently as founder and president of wealth management consultancy Hughes Growth Strategies.

Eton Advisors, a Chapel Hill, N.C.-based registered investment advisor with nearly $2 billion in client assets, has hired Brian Hughes as president. Most recently, Hughes was founder and president of Hughes Growth Strategies, a consultancy to wealth management firms.

In the new role, Hughes will be responsible for Eton’s client strategy, growth and developing thought leadership content for clients.

"Brian's appointment heralds a new chapter of growth and innovation for Eton,” said Teresa Eriksson, founding partner of Eton Advisors.

Hughes has 30 years experience in the industry. Before launching Hughes Growth Strategies, he was head of strategic relationships at Threshold Group, a privately held multi-family office that is now part of AlTi Tiedemann Global. Prior to that, he served as head of business development for Pitcairn, another multi-family office.

"Joining Eton Advisors is a homecoming of sorts for me,” Hughes said in a statement. “Having worked with nearly 75 firms as a consultant and led growth for two privately owned multi-family offices, I was blown away by their ability to leverage smart technology, a proprietary solution Eton Advisors created, to deliver a comprehensive family office experience. Eton was also an early adopter of a goals-based investment approach, since the founders began serving their client base over 20 years ago.”

Eton was co-founded in 2009 by Robert Mallernee, Jack Parham and Eriksson, who worked together at U.S. Trust and UBS, serving as senior executives in the respective multi-family office groups. The RIA joined Focus Financial Partners in 2017.
