Since i'm getting weary of the whole VA debate I figured I'm mix things up with a good baseball trivia question:

When the Red Sox and Yankees played their epic one game playoff to decide the AL East Division crown in 1978 there was a Red Sox player who had their last appearance in the major leagues that day.

Name him.

The more important question though, is did he work with a fee based advisor or on that just schlops annuities?

Fee based was just getting going back then.  I bet it was some annuity salesman.  Probably Dirk's Dad.

Yaz retired after the 1983 season along with John Bench

Thanks for the guess.

Frank Duffy and Bob Bailey both played the last game that day I think.

Bucky Dent is a freakin' cheater.  And, unfortunately in this case, the cheaters won.  sh*tbags!

JQ,

good job.

Bob Bailey is the correct answer.

He struck out in his only AB; I do believe facing Rich Gossage (who deserves to be in the HOF but that is a story for another day).

Frank Duffy did appear in '79 albeit in only 6 more games.
