They have certainly improved since “IT ALL BEGINS WITH A DREAM.” That got really old.

Then there is that little thing that everyone else does too called...................

REVENUE SHARING. 4 years ago it was a third of net revenue for the partners. Has that changed Spiff?
Oct 15, 2009 6:01 pm

*yawn*  we all knew about that ... where else do they fleece me?

Brand makes a huge difference - to the owners. Even Jones preaches that clients want to do business with the “local guy” and that they prefer to work with individuals. Why do you think they make you sign a non-solicit? Because they know the relationship is with the individual.

Unless you sell Edward Jones along with yourself (a big mistake IMHO - even starting out), people don’t care about “Edwards and Jones and Sons”.

I liked the funny commercials. Those more recent lame ones with the voiceovers were horrible.

Oh, and shoeshine is queer.

B24 - I vaguely remember hearing that they did away with national advertising.  I guess that mean the ROI is infinite.  ANY benefit I get at my branch level from advertising is big.

foot - you're a broken record.  60%, revenue sharing, haircuts, real business owner, blah blah blah.  Get over it.  I'm aware of those things, but choose to stay where I'm at.  My choice.    Back to the advertising.  How can you say that the advertising is to help the FAs en masse, but not me specifically?  I don't expect at the national level to hear my name on the Discovery Channel.   But, I do get some benefit from it.  Even if it is just brand awareness.  The other option is to not do it at all.  Let the partnership just retain the dollars they're spending on production and rotating those ads.  Of course when that happens nobody gets any benefit except for the partnership and the GPs.  So, when faced with the choice of retaining the dollars or creating ads to improve brand awareness, I'm glad they chose the ads.    And I believe I do get some direct benefit from it.  Every time someone walks into or calls my office looking for help, I can't help but think that one factor is brand awareness.  The story is that we've got a good reputation.  At least that's what every one of the people who end up in my office that way tell me.  In a metro market like mine, a small one man office can't spend enough money on his own to create that kind of awareness.  Here in STL names like Scottrade, EDJ, AGE, and Stifel are synomyous with investing.  All of those companies spend a ton of money on advertising.  The advertising helps the front line FAs which in turns helps the home office bottom line.         I'm having a difficult time understanding why you think the national advertising is a bad thing.

Spiff it’s not a bad thing. National advertising helps for sure.

Also, your ROI is zero from an FA standpoint, because you have no investment. From an LP standpoint, your ROI is infinite.

And let me take this opportunity to point out that shoeshine is gay.

Oh wait…

You guys are now being compensated on the Spiff compensation plan...     The more you post...the more bacon you put on the table. I hit my daily goal before I start my communication with wannabes.

Volt-

Been married to the same woman for 23 years. No time for guys except Monday night football. We don't even do crossies at the John...that's a Jones good ol boy tradition isn't it?   Haven't used a stance since college (as in baseball) 30 years ago.

Oct 15, 2009 9:07 pm

Probably would pull a groin muscle if I tapped at all…

You young Jones guys will have to do all the fancy footwork...   Thanks for wasting 2 minutes for me, I needed a little levity before my next appt.
Oct 15, 2009 9:11 pm

So I guess the answer to my question is Jones still holds employees financially responsible even though they oversee everything they do…

Who is tapping who now Voltmeister?
