[quote=joedabrkr]Thank you Babs! I appreciate all the detail in your description.

Do
you think a tasteful contemporary theme would work?  Not avant
garde, but sleek, blonde woods, glass block walls, etc…

I would go for the old money look myself. People should feel wealthy in your office.

Idea’s a second

Have nice chairs for everyone. No one should have to sit on an bad chair ever. Same thing for desks and tables.

Kitchenette is a very good idea. Keep in an area with its own door
though, or soon the entire office will smell like old food. You earn
bonus points for keeping track of client beverage/food preferences.

Ventilation, make sure you have lots of it. No one wants to enter a stale office.

I like the pressed wood comment….  I guess gray steel is out of the question then?

Gray Steel can work very well, provided its tastefully done. If you
have an office in an old industrial building, the “industrial look” can
work very well.

I know that if I were opening a new practice what I would want to focus on is being close to home so I could be there to meet them after school.  Isn't that what Todd Robinson did when he was getting going?

I'd also want to avoid having a class A office that was fifteen minutes away in favor of a lower class office that was only two minutes from home.  That extra thirteen minutes in the morning can be spent do so much business.  Clients are expecting you to call at 7:02 AM instead of 7:15, right?

I'd also want to have an eclectic office.  I think windows that look like port holes on a ship have a certain flair and would appeal to those old fools who think that World War II was such a big deal. They could come into my office and flash back to the USS Minnow, or whatever it was.

I also think that furnishings are overrated.  If you know where to find it there is a furniture section at K-Mart.  It may take two or three trips but you can haul all the furniture you need in a normal car, it comes boxed up and all you need is a screwdriver and a hammer to put it together.  There is something called "A Box of Lamps" that has an assortment of brass colored lamps with shades to match.  I believe there is six lamps in the box and they cost about $29.99.

It is important that you have CNBC in your office.  It conveys the impression that you are up to date on all that is happening, plus the Money Honey is soooo hot.  You will want to have a sofa where your older clients can come and "watch the market."  Have coffee and sodas for them.  Be sure the bathroom is nearby and they don't need a code to get in.  If any of them are still there after the market closes hold a cold mirror under their nose.

There is nothing wrong with answering your own phone.  Do you suppose that Alexander Graham Bell had somebody answer his phone?  I doubt it very much.

As for office decor.  Be sure to avoid that picture of dogs playing poker.  Suggesting that you're running a gambling palace is not a good idea.  Instead you should have a Norman Rockwell scene because old fools thought that being able to leave your door unlocked without being robbed was such a big deal.

Finally don't decorate in ethnic style.  Glass block windows scream, "You never take me to Miami" even more than plastic slip covers on the furniture.  One must take care not to offend the Muslims just as they're taking over the country.

I love sarcasm D.A.

So that 3 foot tall crucifix flanked by the Virgin of Guadalupe with votive candles underneath is out?

...although I hate to encourage him...

...loved the porthole windows...what a nice touch...

...What we need is a separate thread where DA and Mr. A can discuss politics...

Skip the glass block, go with frosted glass instead.  “Minimalist” is in. Spend more on the conference room and reception, skimp on work spaces. Also, stay closer to home.

I went to a prospect’s office this Saturday.  I was amazed. The office looks like crap with cheap, old mica furniture.  He makes $7 Million a year and has over $100 Million in liquid assets.

…don’t tempt me…that would be worth the price of admission.  If DA starts posting at his usual pace, I may just do that…

Overall a pretty funny post.

You don't care about getting home in time, because all you have is that gay fluffy little white dog.  Too, you can waste the extra time commuting because you're time isn't especially valuable.  You've made that clear with your behavior on here, Putsy.

They aren't too hot on Israel Bonds either.
