EDJ awards

Can someone refresh my memory concerning the awards given at the regional meetings? Specifically the production required for the partners award, and how you qualify for the regional leaders service award.
Thanks! Both of those are new guy awards. The Partner’s Award is for an FA who grosses $90-180K in his first full selling year. The Regional Leaders award is for an FA who is exceeding expectations at the end of his first full year selling.
I think all the awards are dumb. We must have given out like 50 plaques, pen sets, bull/bears, etc. I came home with FOUR awards. FOUR. And many people had MORE. Geez, it’s nice and all, but what about those few guys in the region that got nothing? Makes their spouses feel like sh!t. I could see giving out a few awards for real achievements, but I think it is pretty over-the-top.

I understand the frustration, it's like getting the participation certificate in youth sports. But at the same time, regional meetings are designed to be morale and cohesion builders. It's easy to decipher the real 'earned' awards from the fluff. In the military, medals and ribbons work the same way: Everyone gets some of their ribbons automatically due to time in service or where they are serving. But a silver star is still a silver star regardless of all the fluff that is stacked under it.
I don’t think those awards are so much about the regional meetings and the atta boys than they are being able to bring them back to the office and hang them on the walls. You see a guy with all kinds of awards hanging on the wall, you don’t always ask where they come from, you just get the feeling that he’s doing something right.
I guess you’re right. However, I looked around the room and felt a little bad for a few of my friends that were there with their wives, and probably felt like complete losers in front of them for not getting a single award, when most of us were walking out with several. I got several awards, and my production was not much higher than some of the guys that got nothing. It wouldn’t bother me if spouses weren’t there. WE understand what’s going on. And we are big boys. The poor spouses just sit there thinking either “my poor husband” or “man, my husband is the biggest loser”. Either way, it’s not good at best, and rather misleading. It’s good for about 90% of the people there. Maybe I’m just too soft.
I disagree with you. I too won several awards this year and didn't feel bad for those that didn't. This is a job were you MUST produce and if you can't you shouldn't be here. I hate it when you have guys in the region that like to tell the newer FA's how to do there job and here they are getting the shit production (299K) awards.. These people should be ashamed.. All you have to do is gross 180-250 to get an award.. Seriously that is basic! Miss JI guess you’re right. I did not intend to cause a major thread to develop. I was just trying to remember what the qualifiers were, because the person that took over my office got the local newspaper to run one of the “canned” Jones press releases about her awards. I just was curious how she was doing, and based upon the info given, the rewards were essentially for meeting standards.
I do agree that they are not very motivating or important. I through mine in the trash, but to each his own.I don’t think those awards are so much about the regional meetings and the atta boys than they are being able to bring them back to the office and hang them on the walls. Spiffy- If you are a vet (and you see all those plaques in the FA's office , I would get the feeling that you don't have a life and wondering why you can't melt that gold plated shovel into something useful for society. After all spiff, you did win the shovel award for opening 120 new accounts (of any kind probably 5K Ira's) in your first year, didn't you? I would have more respect for an FA if all they had were pictures of their family or other personal achievements regarding their eductaion, community etc., than some silly production plaque. The EDJ pictures are at least somewhat palatable (they do look the same in each office, have you noticed?) For the record, I earned all the damn awards, and NEVER put them where clients could see them. The pictures of Hill and Bachman were gutted and used with photos that I took of beautiful scenery in our area. Only one exception....my wife loved the Ted Jones picture with the horse. And that one was out in the waiting room. Plaques don't mean poop (I was thinking of another four letter word). And Spiff production doesn't necessarily mean that the FA is doing anything right. Just moving money, that's all.foot - that’s an insiders point of view. It’s different from the client’s point of view. If they walk into your office and notice not just the pictures of your family, your high school diploma, and your key to the city, but they also see your business awards I believe, for some people, it may be important. The awards Jones gives out say nothing about production. They say things like Winners Circle or AF McKenzie award or Jack Phelan award or Managing Partners award. The other awards they might not even recongnize as awards. Things like a crystal vase, or mantle clock. I like having those things in my office. Along with my diploma that says Cum Laude and my EDJ baseball cap autographed by John Bachmann.
And no, I don't have the golden shovel in my office. I didn't start new/new so I wasn't eligible. However, I would have qualified.
I don’t think those awards are so much about the regional meetings and the atta boys than they are being able to bring them back to the office and hang them on the walls. Just moving money, that's all.
I beg to differ on this. My office has several items that help tell who I am to my customers: 1. Family man- Pictures of my wife and child. 2. Proud to be a part of my community- A "Turf Deed"- Basically a chunk of the turf from my alma mater (the local University) and a deed saying I own part of the field. 100 of us have them for making large donations to the program. 3. Not just a guy behind a desk- A couple of my son's toys over in the corner. 4. The best at what I do- Various awards, and certificates I've earned. These things combined help paint the image for my customer of who I am. A family man that is involved and cares about the community who works hard and knows what he's doing at work. The certificates I have look very perstigous because I've got them in very nice frames. Sure one of them came from a three day course, and the other a week long one but a customer doesn't know that. I think customers find comfort in knowing I'm not just some guy they put behind a desk last week to sell products. Not to mention as a young guy I don't want to appear inexperienced, since they have the date earned on them a person looking at them knows I've had constant training for at least a couple of years. My last response for the day…
Spiff I am taking a stab at this one. Did you get your degree in communications? You started 4 months after me on these forums and almost 3X the posts. Peace brother, the markets are tough enough. How hard would it be to go to the local trophy shop and have some “awards” manufactured. “Citizen of the year”, “Fair Board Alumni”, “John Deere man of the Year”…to Joneses its just another facade for their image. Its whats behind the curtain that matters, Dorothy.
The best award is when LPL direct deposit my 90% payouts + 3% bonus twice month!
Oh, they also sends me a "Chairman's Club" plaque once a yr. Other than that, I don't need any stinkin' fake awards from anyone, cause my wife sees every deposit every 15th & 30th of the month. Guess all that matters now days. BTW, I still got those Jones Partners' & Golden Shovel prospecting awards proudly displayed somewhere, or did I put it on Ebay already?BTW, I still got those Jones Partners’ & Golden Shovel prospecting awards proudly displayed somewhere, or did I put it on Ebay already?
You did, and I got them for a steal!
Not so fast! I outbid you on those, and then sold them to the EDJ guy a couple of miles from my house who got shut out at last year’s regional. His wife had been thinking that he was a total loser. He said that he’s going to take them home and tell her that it was an oversight and error that caused him to be overlooked at last week’s regional.
