I 've been using  Excel for contact management and setting up filters like client names , last contact, notes,  the type of client ( and i made up my own categories ) and when to call  the client back.  Other filters i set up were cds and annuity maturity dates, their rates, and  how much revenue i get from the client ect.  I even set up a focus list of clients each month so i have a better idea who to concentrate on.   Its customizable, pretty simple and best of all free since most office computers have them.  I did not want to start detailed data base of clients  using company software for the reason that your company can scrap it at anytime and really screw you up.   I started using it about four  months ago and have detailed notes on almost 500 clients and prospects.  I hope to have  a couple thousand by the end of the year.  It also helps to avoid calling prospects that you do not want to call again.  That was a surprising unintended consequence that has saved me a a ton of time.  Everytime i call someone i look up the name first.   I feel like i have an infinitely much better handle on my book of business now.   Evenually, i want to make formulas that can help me determine which kind of clients or introductions are the most profitable relationships,  something that can help direct my focus.

  When i bragged to a friend of mine, a million dollar producer,   that i started using excel,  they told me they had been using it all along and their junior brokers are always making lists for them, and they told me it has helped them tremendously as well.
