we stopped taking them too. before leaving, we had just took the cash on our last 3. now we just pay for them ourselves with no:

taxes to be paid reduction in MTD gross spread over 3 months no maritz no top producer BS no wholesaler BS no newbie BS no home office GP BS no "morning meeting to give time to the wholesalers BS"   The destinations were very much "world class", but the rest - not so much.

So, what's the difference between taxes being paid and paying for your vacation yourself?  Instead of reducing your MTD gross over three months, don't you just reduce your checkbook balance by whatever the cost of the trip is?  Isn't it the same thing? I seriously don't get that it's a bad thing.

On my last trip I spent ZERO time talking with GPs, wholesalers, newbies, or top producers.  I didn't really care who the top producers in the room were or what clique I fit into.  Found a buddy from my home office days and we had a great time.  I don't remember the memos about having to spend time with anyone from Jones beyond the required meeting.      Our morning meeting, which is necessary for the product partners to be able to contribute financially for the cost of the trip, was about an hour and a half.  Can't even tell you what it was about.   In the grand scheme of things, not a big deal.      You folks who left Jones compaining about the trips is one of the most stupid things I've ever seen.

The trips were certainly not a reason to leave Jones. But I can think of a lot of things I’d rather do than have a wholesaler take up an hour and a half of my life. Just sayin’.

Me too.  But, if the choice is trip with the wholesaler talk vs no trip without, I'll listen to the spiel.

Spiff-   Really way out on the edge aren't you if your goal in life is to be a GP. Aren't you required to suck ass big time so you can someday be elgible for the gold.   You have been away, were you on a trip?

I also like the idea of cashing the trips out. I just use the money

to help fund my own vacations.

I only miss one thing from my Jones days-- the trips.  All BS aside, they were fantastic, even if you factor in the negatives listed above.  I would gladly pay taxes on a no-cost trip to the islands if my current firm offered one.  Some of my fondest memories are with my family on the trips.

Back to the original OP I heard recently that Weddle views segments almost like a merit badge, and that he doesn't think it would be right to strip that away. However I do hear that if you are a profitable seg 5 producing seg 3/4 numbers that you will be getting some extra meetings and coaching.
