Maybe the reason intelligent life doesn't want to contact us is there is no reason. What is the sound of one hand clapping. How could anyone be happy with this broker dealer. We know why the moth flies into the flame.

I was hoping to see some positive comments about EDJ. Since I like them.

BTW, if you want clients to have BRIC exposure (and be fashionably late to the party) the EEB etf charges only 60bp with no sales load.

Exactly Spiff…some folks just have too much free time…

Rank,

Do you not sense the sarcasm?

Stop me if you've heard this one....

Q. Why are there no Edward D Jones jokes?

What!? Oh you've heard this one? Ok never mind.

It is a funny one though... Huh?

You're going to need to slow down on those liquid lunches.

Close!

In a way.

Yes. Very droll.

Bye bye then.

bspears:

I miss the crack they feed you at the meetings.  How many times do I have to listen to the Protective rep give his/her same spiel???  I’ve only been away a couple of weeks, but I get goosebumps in the mornings knowing I’m building a business I own!  It trumps any trip, any meeting, any faux wood award at some Summer suck fest!!!  Let’s see, the BRIC fund, senior floating rate fund from Hartford…dodge and cox funds…No koolaid drinking puke is going to out work someone building their OWN business…none!!  I remember fondly working hard to win the trimester awards and then when I had to pay taxes on the freakin turkey I won…I quit trying to win the scumbag awards.  Work hard, make us more money…win a turkey, and then pay taxes on it!! YAHOOOOOOO!  EDJ SUCKS!!!  AMWAY OF THE SECURITIES INDUSTRY!!!

Mar 4, 2007 12:18 am

I did miss that turkey this year at Thanksgiving though

I can think of one very good thing–Doug Hill is not in charge anymore!

Dougie was the cause of a lot of the issues that Jones is trying to overcome right now.  To Spiff and all of the other current Jonesers...best of luck.

Some of you may know the securities industry but you don't know squat about running a small business.  It's my own HAHAHAHAH  What is???  You going to buy the building? Your big black book?  wow, many of you live in a dream world.

Let me point out what you own:

1.

2.  Oh that's right, your book

Let me see, in business it's all about net + real property + various other types of good will/non compete/ etc.  You have a net of 200k a year.  Typical is 1-1.5x net + real property + goodwill.

Let's say high end of 250k + no real property + no good will.  Oh and you'll have to finance almost all of it because no bank will give anyone a loan for near that for intangible property that shaky.  So you hand over your business for 50k and a promisary note somebody will be a goodboy/girl and pay the other 200k (declare bankruptcy on the corp, keep the clients, move on and get a biz for 50k LOL)  all  the while you panic to try and get some clients back, not gonna happen.

Let's talk about on the way to the big "retirement pie in the sky" of being an owner.  Don't get hurt, don't have an accident, don't have a buglary, don't have an employee sell your list for $50 LOL or give it away because his/her boss "wronged them".

I'm a numbers guy, check them if you wish, but no way 200k book worth more than 200k total, if even close to that.  You can invest 200k in advertising and get way more than that out of the same money.  Is it worth the headaches along the way?  Being a business owner for 10 years I'd say no freaking way!!! LOL

But to each his own, good luck to all and I genuinely hope everyone finds happiness.

Yes, yes. Thank you for your insights.

Bye bye then.

Your welcome, any other fantasies you want debunked?

Not at all!

I always enjoy reading posts from a noephyte telling us all that we don’t

know what we’re doing.

They give you an assistant as soon as you get in an office.  (very underrated)

[/quote]

BOA right?  30k a year salary plus benefits plus FICA SUTA FedUE would cost you 40k a year total if you had to employ them.  And if they leave and lie to the UE office you won't get hammered with a 5-6% UE rating, it's EJ's problem.  Workmen's comp claims?  not my problem. Not having to file that those stupid gov't forms for employees?  wow.  I'd say it's underrated.

After having way to many employees for far to long this is sounding better and better every passing day!!  Maybe I'm just sick of dealing with cry babies LOL

I'd be interested to see your valuation methods and if a bank would honor them.

It’s a little different when you own the building that you’re in.

Bye bye then.
