Just curious how everyone structures their days.  Jones preaches time blocking but that does not work for me.  Here is what I’ve been doing lately and it’s working but always want to be more efficient.

m-th - 40 calls & 7 new f2f contacts
f - client calls + f2f contacts with prospects
sat. - 7f2f + plan my next week

Usually get started about 8:30 and end around 6:30

Sep 25, 2009 1:13 pm

m-f

Come in around 9:30. 9:45-11:00 read RRep Forums 11:00-11:45 chat with my BOA 11:45 go to lunch 1:45 come back and bang out 3 or 4 calls to my biggest yellow clients, just to "touch base" 4:45 finish up dinner and mow the lawn

B24- I love it!

My morning thus far- Very productive as you will see...   6:55AM Cell Phone rings. Prospect calling me on my cell to tell me to quit calling them. I wonder if this is still considered a contact...   8:30AM- Stuck in the Meijer parking lot-car won't start. Husband is not answering phone. I call my dad. He informs me the battery needs jumped. (Lights and radio still came on so I didn't know what the problem was.)   Since when does a girl in a skirt standing in a big parking lot with their hood up not get asked if they need help?   8:55AM- Weird guy asks me if I need help. I contemplate saying no, that AAA is on the way, but I wanted to get the hell out of there, so I got his help.    9:20- In the office an hour later than I wanted to be with a fear of how this day is going to go with the fantastic morning to start.   Luckily we have a virtual class on emotional resiliance coming up this morning. :)

iceco1d:

M - Th, the “40 Calls,” are they dials or contacts?

Dials - It breaks out to about 13 contacts.  I'll ratchet it up to 50 at somepoint.   Ms. Broker ... if you were wearing a skirt I'd be over there to help you in no time.

9:30 - Wake up

11:00-Get to the office and put my head down on my desk, hoping the incessant pounding in my head from drinking too much vodka last night subsides. 12:00 - Finish my third pot of coffee 1:00 - Begin answering my daily tidal wave of FSPENDS. 2:00 - Call my favorite client 2:15 - Call a couple of my FA buddies in the region and talk about the night before. 2:30 - Head back to the dancing establishment I just left 12 hours earlier and start my day again 5:00 - Call a cab to come get me, because of all the bad decisions I make in a day, I will not make one that kills someone else. 7:00 - Eat one of those new Angus Burgers from McD's (mushroom & swiss is best). 8:00 - Tell wife that I am heading to a speaking engagement at an investment club, go to my friends house to drink cheap beer and play X-box. 11:00 - Start drunk dialing random people in my cell phone (#1 reason I don't keep client information in there). 12:00 - Come home, suspicious wife is up, angry because 5 of the people I just dialed called the house phone wondering why the hell I was calling them at 11pm (especially because some of them are a couple hours ahead on the East Coast), thinking that there was something wrong. 1:00a - Continue trying to verbally weave my way through a story that explains why I'm late, smelling like cheap beer and Vanilla Fields. 2:00a - Ahem...make up. 3:00a - Watch Tivo'd episodes of The Office and pass out.   Hope that helps!

Go pitch cookies in the bathroom wondering what and how I am going to make some money today. Go get another drink from the credenza for the hair of the dog. 10:00 - Start a call session. No answer on 1st call. Maybe I should try something different. 10:15  Go down to the tire store, hang out and eat popcorn. 11:00 Come back to the office and talk about why no one has any money. 11:30 No incoming calls. 12:30 Go to lunch 2:00   Back from lunch 2:15   Start calling all of the 50 dollars a month SWPS.....try to get them to up it to 75. Get one to up it......Revenue!!!!

Obviously currently being at a bank, which is more of a circus atmosphere, I dont follow much of a routine now, but when I was at EJ my mentor who was a real all star - CFP, started from scratch out of college, Seg 5, 125mil AUM in 12 years, told me his schedule was tied to 3 absolutes   1-He wouldn't schedule any appointment before 11am because if he did he would never get around to making the number of calls he needed to. 2- He did a full profile on every appointment. If they wouldn't trust him with at least verbalizing what they had elsewhere he would not proceed. 3-He wouldn't meet anyone outside of his office. He didnt feel the prospect cared enough if they would refuse to come to his office.

Some funny posts here. I’ve been in the biz for 15 years. Way too burned out to look for new clients right now, I know this can’t go on forever.

Here's a web site that provides some economic education - I think America is in trouble because of economic ignorance. Our industry is under attack, and so is capitalism.   http://www.milyunair.com/

Schedule 5 things you need to accomplish before 11 AM each day before you leave. Whether it's making 10 contacts before 11, sending out 10 thank you notes, etc.   I also like the idea of tracking all of the outgoing calls you make each day and at the end of the week total that figure. The next week try to increase that by 10%, so if you made 50 calls for monday, try to do 55 the very next monday and see how much that extra 10% helps your biz in the long run.
