I am 31 and researching a career change from IT at a Financial Services institution to becoming a Financial Advisor.  I am considering all options including Wirehouses, Banks, Brokerages,  and Independent companies like LPL.

While it may not be the best idea, is it possible to start my advising career out at a company like LPL as an Independent Advisor instead of moving Independent after I obtained experience.

It is possible only if you ASSOCIATE with another LPL advisor.

LPL will be looking for existing production experience.

I would HIGHLY recommend learning the ropes at a career shop and THEN transitioning to an independent shop.  This will make the move that much sweeter for you along with having really good  training - particularly in compliance issues.

It would be very difficult–I am looking to expand my practice but I would be doing it with folks having some experience (3-5 years minimum).
