If you are interested in meeting people and getting your business off the ground, door-knocking is the best! Do it and you will find that it’s really kind of an interesting process. It may even be fun. I enjoy it and I have been doing it for many years. People respect a person willing to get off of their butt and in the field.

[email protected] email me if you would like the address of a new EJ forum

Good luck!

Wow!  That place must be a friggin INTELLECTUAL HOTBED!

Some recent sample topics:

"Is it better to doorknock on trash day or the day after trash day?

"What is the best way to soothe an angry dog when he confronts you in the front yard?"

"Is it better to locate my office next door to the Subway or the dry cleaners?"

"Do touchdown bonds really exist any more?"

"What should I say when my friend asks me if I am a "real financial advisor?"

"Colloqium:  The Advanced Use of the Hamburger Analogy"

"Why did they use that Chinese guy in the TV ad, anyway?"

Wow, who pissed in your cornflakes, Joe.  That’s the third or fourth posting you’ve made recently with a negative tone.  Maybe it’s time to take a vacation.

Joe,

How about, "If I open an office in the same town as my regional leader, will he be my friend or my competitor?"

Or, "Is four offices in a town of 20,000 too many?"

Or, "If I choose to move on because leaving Jones is the best thing for my family, will I forever be looked down upon byt he RL?"

I'm sure they'll have many such topics to discuss.

Like the one about 4 offices in a town of 20,000.

Do you think they'll let us join the forum?
Jan 17, 2007 5:27 pm

I don’t think they’d let us join because they wouldn’t want any negativity from someone who’s had their corn flakes pissed in as Spiff pointed out.  Many of my friends still at Jones are starting to see the truth so maybe they can join and save some others before it is too late.  Glad I started ther, but glad I left, just wish I’d done it sooner.

Whitepages.com reverse address will become invaluable as well. If your
like me sometimes you don't exactly get the name spelt right or forget to
get a piece of info. That website will show you everybody on the street
who owns a house and would make a decent client.

Even better than that, pick up a Cole Directory ($2-$300). It not only shows address, name and phone #, it also shows a household income range (under 50k, 50-100k, and over 100k), age (under 35, 35-50, and over 50), and how long they have lived there.  If you don't want to buy one you can always go to the library armed with a map of the area you want to hit and photocopy the specific streets.

I've said this before in other posts - these are important things to know before going door to door:

* Bring warm cookies (preferably chocolate chip)

* Don't wear a short sleeve, white shirt with a tie, while riding your bike

* Go to the front door - don't sneak around to the back door (anyone who watched the movie sideways will understand this is a 'no no'.

* Bring windex and papertowels.  Nothing says 'hello' better than a good cleaning of the glass on their front door

I am in the last stages of the interview process with EJ, and have not looked heavily into other firms (other than reading lots of interesting comments on here).

Broker24 - I would be interested in speaking with you via phone if you're available to do that. I have met with and spoken with several EJ IRs, all at different points in their careers.

I am trying my best to do my due diligence in researching this opportunity - but am wondering if I should slow down and look at some others.  However, from the little I know about others compared to EJ, I feel my personality best fits with EJ.

My question:  My understanding is I need to make 25 qualified leads per day, which translates to making 100+ contacts daily.

It looks like in order for me to "work smarter," I would need to target my prospects to biz owners, using D & B directories, etc.  I know you have to log in your prospects each day, do they "check" to see that your prospects have come directly from door knocking?  (ie, checking addresses?)

Just wondered how this was handled.

The answer is that they don't care about the contacts as long as you are opening accounts and making your production numbers. You want good contacts in your system. I used a lot of people from my previous career along with my door knocks and it worked great. It's hard to get 25 contacts a day but you can do it.

I drove around and when I saw someone out in their yard I got out of my car and talked to them. I then looked around and went to every home in the neighborhood that looked like someone was home. This gets your 25 faster.

I would set your contact goal at 40 and accept 30.

Good luck

It is nice to have a solid indy or wirehouse position that brings in refferals. I am not at this point, but my three partners give me all their scraps. They get all the refferals.

Door knocking for me is reaching out to my client base at different functions and events. If someone came to my door and started talking finance I would think it was Amway.
