Careers in Kentucky - Help

New to the Kentucky area and looking to start a new career. Background is in sales / sales management (non-financial services). I am seriously considering getting into the world of financial services, although, after reading through this forum, there's a lot I can learn.
I've been on a few interviews, but nothing quite what I'm looking for. Anyone live in, work in, or have any knowledge about the job market in Kentucky, specifically, South Eastern Kentucky? Other than the seemingly useless jobs boards, where else should I be searching?I know a bit about the financial services industry in almost every state. It is my judgement that you'll find very little opportunity in SE Kentucky because the industry tends to follow the money and the reality is that there's not a lot of money in Appalachia.
There may be a few Hilliard branches in the area, but I think you'll find it's the domain of well established practices in the Independent channel. There’s some old “Coal Money” in that part of the state, but people with that money are few and far between. How about moving a few hours to Lexington or Nashville?
I'm actually about 30 minutes from Lexington, KY. Maybe I shouldn't have said South East. Lexington seems to be where the majority of the positions are. Now that we have that cleared up, what's your suggestion? There’s some old “Coal Money” in that part of the state, but people with that money are few and far between. How about moving a few hours to Lexington or Nashville?
Kentucky has branches of most of the major firms, and the headquarters for Hilliard Lyons in LVL.
There are also several small boutique firms in LVL. Additionally Cincy is just across the river. Standard and Poors publishes a list of firms and offices by state. It's called "Security Dealers of North America." I have one dated 2005, but I'd be amazed if they stopped publishing it. Check at your local library. Also you can use Google to find places--key on the letters SIPC and Lexington.
